About

I’m Sam Hope, a genderqueer and transgender person living in the UK.

I started the Facebook page Lesbians and Feminists against Transphobia in 2013, because I was witnessing heartbreaking ignorance and transphobia from a die-hard minority in my community, and I did not know how to challenge it, but knew it needed to be challenged. I wanted to create a rallying banner for people who felt the same way as me.

I did not realise my exploration of gender through the page and through other research would take on such a personal aspect in my life or change things so dramatically. And now it occurs to me that being open about myself and sharing some of my own personal journey may be a small part of how I help things change, which is why I’ve started this blog . . .

I agree with Vron and have been that condemning voice when I witness fellow Jews being racist. Understanding is undoubtedly the way forward, and your comment about survival, insecurity, perceived scarcity (of safety? of acceptance? of a place in the world?) and therefore a threat has really hit home for me. I’m sure that is a big part of the fearful mindset of transphobic lesbians too.

As ever, Sandy, and as Eric says, excellent and clear analysis. I admire your ability to unravel and articulately express all these confusing strands. Thank you!
